BIRMINGHAM, AL -

Tuesday, the members of the Democratic National Committee wrapped up their tour of Birmingham. The DNC is considering Birmingham to host the 2016 Democratic National Convention.

For the last two days, Birmingham has rolled out the red carpet to show members of the DNC why Birmingham should host the convention.

Myla Calhoun, Senior Vice President of the Birmingham Business Alliance has been part of the efforts to show the DNC the best of Birmingham.

"It's been a thrill for us to see how excited the committee members have been about all that we have to offer,” Calhoun said.

In the last two days committee members have been taken to sites around the city, from the Birmingham Museum of Art, Regions Field, to the Barber Motorsports Park.

One of the highlights of their visit was a pitch party at Iron City. Calhoun says seeing the committee interact with last night's crowd, it was apparent they were buying into the excitement of Birmingham.

"By the end of the evening they were singing along to Sweet Home Alabama. So, that's a very good sign," Calhoun explained.

Birmingham is just the first stop in the DNC’s tour of finalist cities for the 2016 convention. The committee will visit Columbus, Ohio, Phoenix, Philadelphia and New York before making their decision. But Calhoun says she’s confident the DNC’s visit to Birmingham has been unforgettable.

"I do not believe that any place could make the committee feel more welcomed, more wanted and more willing to do what is necessary to ensure that the delegates that come to Birmingham in 2016 will have a wonderful experience."

The DNC is expected to select a site for the 2016 convention in early 2015.
