HOLT, AL -

A landfill in west Alabama is doubling its daily intake. The Tuscaloosa County Commission voted to allow eagle's bluff landfill in Holt to increase their capacity per day to two-thousand yards.

The problem is that there is only one road in and out of the landfill and the neighborhood it runs through is highly populated.

Virginia Anthony has lived on 12th Street in holt for 25 years. She is the unofficial spokesperson for the neighborhood.

After the April 27th, 2011 tornado, traffic to the construction and debris landfill at the end of her street increased dramatically she said, but Anthony isn't solely blaming advanced disposal, that owns the landfill. “I feel very betrayed because they are looking at me now as being a complainant complaining about them. And I'm not complaining about them. I'm complaining about the system and the way that they are doing things,” Anthony added.

Anthony Said debris from the trucks falls on their street and she said the road is so narrow it's virtually impossible for two cars to pass at the same time.

Residents are also concerned about the air quality. They believe the exhaust from the trucks is polluting their air.

Advanced Disposal does have a truck that sweeps the street to try and keep it clean. Mary O’Brien the company's chief marketing officer said the vote, "only increases the daily amount the landfill can accept in order to meet the community’s growing demand for environmentally safe and economically competitive disposal of construction and demolition debris materials."
