BIRMINGHAM, AL - One neighborhood in the Magic City hasn't seen a lot of magic over the years when it comes adding new homes. Now, lifestyles are about to change in Woodlawn.

This afternoon, Mayor William Bell and members of the Woodlawn Foundation broke ground for the new Park at Wood Station.

The multi-million dollar development will be built in different phases.

The first phase of the project will include a 64-unit townhome complex. A community center is also included in phase one.

The heavy machines are in place and the construction process is already underway.

"I was just walking through reminiscing about what the neighborhood use to look like and trying to vision what it's going to look like in the future and it's bittersweet," Arnold King said.

The project will cost about $12 million. The Woodlawn Foundation has been able to secure federal grants and help through Regions Bank. Phase one of the  Park at Wood Station should be completed within a year. There were no definite plans given for what's included in the other phases.
