JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL -

Jefferson County Deputies are investigating the death of a man.

They were called to the 5100 block of Cherry street in the Booker Heights community to investigate a report of shots fired

When they arrived Deputies found a man lying dead in the street, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was later identified as 20-year-old Charles David Thomas.

Authorities say Thomas had gotten into an argument with a 19-year-old man, which escalated and ended with them exchanging gunfire. Thomas died on the scene, while the other man was not hit.

Detectives questioned the shooter and released him. The evidence is being presented to the District Attorney's office to consider if criminal charges will be filed.
