A series of apartments designed to help female veterans officially opened its doors today.

The Starsay House opened today on 2nd Avenue North in Birmingham.

The house consists of three one-bedroom apartments which will serve female veterans or veteran couples.

The house is named in honor of Theresa M. Wildmon, who passed away in July of 2013. Her nickname was "Starsay," which means "The Brightest Star in the Heavens."

The Starsay House is Three Hots and a Cot's first home dedicated to female veterans. The organization strives to help connect veterans who are homeless or may become homeless with services available through a variety of organizations to help them live a self-sustaining life.
