Here’s a quick look at your top five headlines for Tuesday, August 05, 2014.

1. A chartered evacuation plane is headed to Atlanta to bring the second American infected with the Ebola virus back to the U.S. for medical treatment. Nancy Writebol is a missionary from Charlotte, North Carolina. She will be treated at the same hospital as Dr. Kent Brantly.

2. Testimony could begin today in Tuscaloosa in the murder trial of Tracey Grissom. Grissom admitted to shooting and killing her ex-husband back in 2012. Yesterday a judge and attorneys questioned potential jurors in a pool of 130 people. That number was whittled down to 48 people by noon.

3. Alabama Attorney General Luther Strange says he plans to appeal a ruling by a federal judge that one of Alabama’s abortion laws is unconstitutional. Planned Parenthood and others filed the lawsuit after the state legislature passed a law requiring doctors at abortion clinics to have hospital admitting privileges. The judge ruled that state lawmakers exceeded their authority in passing the law.

4. Luther Strange has also filed a motion on behalf of Irondale-based Eternal Word Television Network. He’s asked a Federal Appeals court to protect what he calls “religious liberty for Alabama citizens and religious non-profit ministries.” Strange has asked the court to reverse a ruling in favor of a portion of the health care law requiring EWTN and others to provide coverage for certain types of birth control.

5. Tonight is the 31st Annual National Night Out Against Crime. Several cities in our area will join others nationwide for the crime and drug prevention event designed to heighten awareness and generate support for local anti-crime efforts.
