JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL -

A burglary suspect is behind bars after he was arrested following an incident Monday afternoon near Hueytown.

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, a 17 year-old boy was home alone in the 3100 block of 15th Street Road when someone knocked on the door. The teen did not recognize the man and ignored the knocking.

Authorities say the man then went to the back of the home and threw a brick through a door to get inside.

The teen locked himself inside his parents' bedroom and called 911.

Hueytown Police Officers arrived just in time to capture the suspect as he tried to run away from the crime scene.

The man has been identified as 34 year-old Brandon Shane Sweatt, of Bessemer. Sweatt has been charged with 2nd degree burglary and 1st degree criminal mischief. He was arrested and placed in the Jefferson County Jail on bonds totaling $45,000.
