Self-proclaimed "Mean Mom" gets creative with punishment

Posted: Updated:
RICHLANDS, N.C. - An Onslow County mom is getting creative when it comes to punishing her teenager.

Last month, her 16-year-old son borrowed her car and lied about where he was going.

Yet Richlands mom of six, Rett Schaefer-Orozco, found out about it, when she got a call from police saying he was coming back from a party and didn't yield, hitting another car and totaling her GMC Acadia.

Fortunately, no one was injured but the family faces more than a thousand dollars in damages.

So, through social media, she's making the soon to be high-school junior, work to pay it off. She's offering him up to neighbors to do things like yard work, washing cars and cleaning garages.

"For the most part, 98%, I've gotten, "Go Mom," "You're Great," "High Five," the whole nine yards. I've had a couple of haters, but, you know, that's fine. These are my kids. I'm going to raise them the way I want," she explained.

She's been driving him to different odd-jobs every day and says at the end of the week, he will have earned about half of the money he owes.
