DURHAM, N.C. -

Durham police are searching for a 71-year-old man missing since Monday afternoon.

Kent Torrey Hinkson was last seen at his home in the Woodcroft community in southern Durham Monday around 3 p.m., police said.

Police described Hinkson as a male with blue eyes, gray hair, mustache and goatee, standing 5 feet 8 inches tall with a medium build.

Hinkson wears prescription glasses, according to police. He also may be wearing a black leather hat.

He is a former clergyman at All Saints Church in Durham.

"I know he would be here if he could be here," said Kent Hinkson's wife Jeline Hinkson. "We really want him back."

Mrs. Hinkson told WNCN that her husband had to run a couple of errands, including a stop at the Wells Fargo Bank at 4709 Hope Valley Road in the Woodcroft Shopping Center, where records show he made a deposit.

"Everybody's been searching for him in every place we can possibility think of," said Mrs. Hinkson.

Hinkson was last seen driving a red 2011 Hyundai Sonata with North Carolina license XZA-4259. His vehicle was found Wednesday in the 1800 block of Williamsburg Road in Durham, police said.

Flyers have been posted in the area in hopes of locating Mr. Hinkson.

Hinkson's family thought they had a promising lead when they pinged Kent's cellphone, showing it was in the Duke University area. But a short time later, they tried again without any result.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call Investigator M. Richards at (919) 560-4440, ext. 29335 or the main police desk at (919) 560-4427.
