TUSCALOOSA, AL -

Authorities in Tuscaloosa have made an arrest in a weekend murder.

Eric Omar Petty, 38, has been charged with death in the murder of 41 year-old Marcellus Lee Brown.

The shooting happened around 6:00 p.m. Saturday at the “Easy Money” check cashing store on McFarland Boulevard.

Investigators say Brown was a customer inside the business when he was approached by Petty. According to police, the two never spoke.

"The suspect then began to fire a handgun at the victim, with at least one round striking the victim in the chest area. The suspect then fled the scene. The victim was transported to DCH-ER where he died from his injuries," said Sgt. Phillips.

Brown, a graduate of Central High School, was a well-known DJ in the Tuscaloosa community.

Right now, authorities are still working to figure out a motive, but they believe the incident was a personal issue between the two.

"There appears to have been no robbery attempt of the business or the victim," Phillips added.

Early Sunday morning, Petty was located in the 900 block of 13 Street East and taken into custody without any issues. He was placed in the Tuscaloosa County Jail on a $100,000 bond.
